Fast, Slow, Repeat

The gym is closed this week because of summer break, so this morning was my first run on the road. Let me tell you, running on the treadmill is Sooooooooooo much easier than running on asphalt. I don't know how I am going to do a 5k at the end of next week! It is not looking good. I've been having knee problems that I think are due to the way I run (I have flat feet) which only get worse running on the road. This morning I went 2.2 miles in 28 minutes. I could have powerwalked faster!! I think that the problem is when I slow my pace to a fast walk for a few minutes, usually the treadmill keeps me on pace (4 miles an hour). On the road, I slow down to a turtle crawl because I am so tired. Here I was thinking I was all that because at the gym, I usually do about 6 miles and hour (10 minute mile). Ummm, are there any treadmill roads around here?

I also wanted to say that I continue to be amazed by the differences between guys and girls. (More specifically, the difference between Anthony and me :) Last night as we were coming home from my parents' house we pulled to the side of the road to let an ambulance go by. As we got back into traffic, Anthony realized that there were cops with flashing lights behind us. He quickly pulled over to let them by, thinking they were with the ambulance. But nooo, they were pulling us over!!! Of course, I am FREAKING out! Anthony CANNOT get another ticket. (He has had quite a few and I think he has done the online traffic course as much as you can do in a lifetime) So, they had Anthony get out of our car and come to the Sheriff's car where they talked for at least 15 minutes. The entire time I am sitting in the car, my mind racing with all the different scenarios of what is going on, none of which make any sense. We definitely weren't speeding because we had just started to get back on the road. Finally Anthony got back in the car and when I demanded what was wrong, he acted all nonchalant and said he got a warning for his taillights being out. All of this time he and the two deputies had been talking about fishing. Men!!!

Ummm.....I hope you don't think this is totally stalker-ish, but I found your blog through Claudia's blog. (I'm in your ward, btw!)Anyway.....I've been running too for the last few months, and running on the road IS way harder than the treadmill. I never run on the treadmill anymore, I'm strictly a road runner now. I'm not training for anything but if you ever need a running buddy let me know! I work during the day so I usually go around 7:30 at night, when it is cooling off...

Haha, that's so funny I totally do the same thing with reading multiple books at once! I check out tons of books on CD from the library, and I have one book in my car for to/from work, another on my ipod for while I run, then I usually am read-reading another book or two. My husband thinks I'm crazy.

Your blogs are really starting to crack us up!! I'm impressed with you and the running! And that story sounds just like friendly Anthony!

Haha, Men! They delight in giving women heart palpitations, I am sure! The day they make air conditioned treadmill roads, is the day I will run on the road! I have enough of a time keeping up on the treadmill as it is!

Virginia,
I came running into the room to see what Tony was hysterically laughing at. He read your sheriffs/fish story to me through his ha ha haas! That was one for the Reader's Digest!!!
