When we first planned out seabiscuit's outdoor pen, we thought we would use stacked up trees cut down from our yard as the fence. Anthony planned out a way to use the truck to pull the logs across the yard and we dug a trench around the perimeter to push it into it. It was seriously hard work and very slow going!
After Hurricane Irma came through, we changed our plans and decided to use all the discarded fence panels that were on the side of the road everywhere as our outside perimeter. So much faster and completely free! We needed each panel to be about 3 feet high, so we took off boards from panels that were higher and reused them to create more panels. We even reused old nails from the broken boards to create the new panels.
A little less than halfway down:
We went driving around to fill up the truck bed with fence panels a total of three times over a few weeks in order to get enough wood. After quite a few mornings here and afternoons there, plus help from Anthony's parents we finally got it done!
I think Seabiscuit is very happy to be out of our air conditioned house and back in the heat. Hopefully now that he has so much more room to explore he won't try to get out again!
In this picture you can see the tracker we attached to his shell in the back. It really comes in handy when he is hiding. He blends in so well that it is nice to be able to ring the tracker and follow the sounds to where he is.
I mowed the grass a bit and Anthony put his doghouse, his pool with water, and his food dish out there so it is officially completed! Now we just need to do some cleanup on the outside of the fence of all the brush we cut down to give him more sunny spots and the left over fence panel wood.
