Beginning of December

Can this dog get any bigger???

Rett's hair was looking rough, so I stopped to get him a quick haircut after school. He did really good, as long as they weren't using the clippers. How did both of my kids get to hate the electric hair clippers so much?? It makes it so much harder to cut their hair myself!

A friend who breeds snakes asked Anthony for help with his 19 year old boa constrictor. She developed some kind of mass or cyst and so Anthony went over and did some snake surgery and cut it out. Afterwards our friend realized he didn't really have time to watch her carefully during her recovery, so she came to live in our house for 6 months! Why not, right?

The first day of December the church had a worldwide service initiative, so the boys and I went around town looking for ways to serve. We dropped off bags of clothes for donations, we helped people in the grocery store put their carts away, and the boys each chose a child off the salvation army tree to pick out presents for. After we purchased them, we put them in this donation box on our way out. The boys had so much fun, they love picking out presents for other people!

A few months ago we discovered that Anthony's truck had a faulty part that Nissan doesn't even make anymore because his truck is so old. It was making it really annoying to drive and since the truck was on its last legs anyway, Anthony started looking around for a replacement. Finally he found one that he liked 1 hour and 1/2 away in Orlando, so we went for a test drive. The boys and I watched a movie in their theater room while Anthony negotiated with the car salesman (something we both haaaaaaate with a passion).

Finally the deal was done and we drove home in the new truck!

The boys think it is hilarious that it has a backup camera. They love to get behind it and make crazy faces.

Our elf, James 2, came back to visit for the month of December! He mostly moved around the house all month but sometimes he hid so well the boys gave up finding him and would forget about him until later in the day. This morning he was sitting on the bookshelf reading a Christmas book.

The boys had their 6 month dental cleaning and check up. I am so proud of how well Rett does now! He lets them do all the things they need to do and doesn't cry or fight anymore. So far (fingers crossed) both of them haven't had any cavities. At this visit they did recommend that James get sealants on one of his back molars since it looked like it might have developed a little weaker than his other teeth and would be more susceptible to cavities. It reminded me of a county program that goes and around and visits the schools doing free teeth cleaning and sealants so I called the program director for the county and got the wheels moving for them to come to James's school. Free dental care? Yes please!

James's class picked broccoli from their class garden and James came home later that day and declared that he now likes broccoli! But, it has to be raw AND freshly picked :) I had to take a picture to prove to Anthony that he voluntarily ate a vegetable.

James's cub scout pack had a float in the Christmas parade and James really wanted to walk with them. This was our first time being in the parade instead of watching it. It was really fun! The theme for this year was a Toyland Christmas, so the float was decorated with all kinds of vintage toys: slinky's, monkeys in a barrel, jack in the box, crayons, etc.. Some of the kids dressed up like toys and others just wore their uniform or uniform t-shirts. I seriously love his cub scout pack! They do so many fun things and everyone loves participating. The people are also really nice and Anthony is even going hunting with James's den leader!

James loved handing out the candy, and he was really disappointed when we ran out of candy halfway through the parade. After that I told him he could run up to people and give them high fives

James 2 went fishing for goldfish in the toilet!

He also hung around in the tortoise/iguana cage. The tortoise kept going up to him and checking to see if he was something to eat.

The cooler weather brought out the bunnies that live outside Rett's preschool! One morning I counted 5 bunnies on the playground. So stinkin' cute!

Voldetort finally got his own heated outdoor home. He loves it and hasn't come out since the weather cooled down.

One of James's den meetings was about doing skits for campfire and den meetings. They practiced a few of them and they all loved it. The sillier the better!

James got to be the punchline for this skit, so I had to take a video of it.
