May

I saw this crazy looking thing in the produce section of publix and it was so weird I had to get it! The sign said that it was a jackfruit. I've heard of jackfruit before, but I have never seen it in person. Even the cashier had no idea what it was!

I googled how to cook it and there were so many weird instructions. The outside layer has a sticky, gummy consistency so you have to oil up the knife to keep it from sticking. I tried to spread newspaper out to see if that would contain the mess.

I used three pots to boil it all in and while it was boiling, I tried to look up more exact recipes. It turns out I was completely wrong about which part of the fruit was the part that you eat. I ended up cooking the entire thing instead of picking out the seed pods and cooking just those. It didn't end up tasting good, but it was a fun experiment!

We've been having weekly pool playdates at a friend's house and James has so much fun swimming and playing with the neighborhood kids. It is so strange to me when we visit people and they have kids that play at each other's houses since our kids have never done that. It makes me a little sad, but I still could never live in a subdivision.

Rett rarely gets in the pool because he hates being splashed in the face, but he likes lounging when he can.

These two.

James's coach for basketball this year also happened to be his special ed teacher. Once the school went online, she has been great with James, checking in with him multiple times a week and offering to help him with work to give me a break. We just love her so much, so when a local mom started a county wide adopt-a-teacher facebook page we volunteered to adopt her!

I honestly had so much fun shopping for something other than essential groceries, that I ended up going a little overboard... I actually felt kind of bad about later because I worried I made her feel a little uncomfortable with how much we got her, but I wanted to get her something for teacher appreciation AND for being such an awesome coach. My plan was to bring her something for her doorstep each day of teacher appreciation week.

The first day was a bouquet of flowers with her favorite colors:

The second day we heart attacked her front door with hearts that had reasons why we love her on them:

The third day we got her dunkin donuts, her favorite drink, and a dozen eggs from our chickens:

The fourth day we left her a gift card wreath with gift cards to her favorite places:

On the last day we left her a gift basket with tons of goodies of things she likes and anything that caught my eye in Walmart that I thought she needed :)

The kittens are usually snuggling somewhere with each other:

We had a skatepark playdate with some friends. We went early before the older kids arrive and take over the area and the boys had a blast trying out the smaller dips and curves.

Our primary presidency sent the boys church activity books in the mail. They were so excited to get something in the mail and it was so kind of them to send something!

Rett lost his first tooth! He was so excited to be getting something from the tooth fairy. He ended up with $2 which he was happy with because we told him it was VERY rare for the tooth fairy to give more than $1 :)

The boys decided to do a 24 hour challenge in James's room. They started out by sleeping in there and then spent the day on their devices in the room. Occasionally they would ask me to bring them snacks and I was ok with it because it made the house so peaceful and quiet for a change.

10 hours in:

For the last two weeks of school Rett had a memory book page to complete, one each day. Then I would take a picture of him with his picture and send it in to his teacher.

This momma turkey hatched one chick and it was really cute to watch her walk around with it. The boy turkeys would just follow her around like they were her personal body guards. You can see the chick is the tiny black speck behind her.

Anthony started digging an irrigation well so that he could run sprinklers to the garden and the front and back yard. It was a long process that ended with us calling in an expert to help get it finished. Youtube can only take you so far!

We took the boat out to an island in the river and swam around for a little bit:

James's teachers drove around to all of their student's houses to deliver an end of the year goodie bag. 38 students over multiple counties, such dedication!

Voldetort got out while we had his tracker off of him to replace the battery. Luckily we found him in the pasture behind our house, so he didn't get far. I fed him some strawberries while Anthony reattached his tracker.

Swimming at a friend's house:

Rett refused to get in the pool because he was afraid of getting splashed in his face:

I took the boys to the park and told them I wanted to take a picture of them. Rett makes a crazy face every. single. time.

One afternoon I told the boys that they couldn't watch TV or play on devices. They both sat and pouted about it and they both ended up falling asleep and taking a nap!

Rett doing Zoom violin class with his music teacher at school:

Karate finally started back up!! Rett was ready to go back.

Since it was just Rett and me, I took him to get ice cream after karate to celebrate having something to do!

Rett had his kindergarten graduation over zoom with his class. I had him dress up for the camera, so he didn't have to put on dress pants. No one was going to see the bottom half anyway!
He got the friendship award because he was always a good friend to everyone.

Rett got his third yellow stripe on his belt. Next is moving up to a yellow belt!

James's last zoom class was a verrrrry long show and tell. James ended up being the last person to share, but he didn't mind. He had a good time watching everyone else.

On the last official day of school we had our annual end of school movie party. We ate junk food and watched movies until midnight! The boys begged to keep going and watch movies until morning but Anthony and I couldn't make it any longer than that.

SpaceX had the first manned launch in years, so everyone was excited about it. The president came to watch it and we actually saw air force one fly right over our house! We drove to a spot we thought would be secluded to watch, but were surprised with it being packed with people.

A successful launch!
