James had his first den meeting with his cub scout pack. They had a group of special visitors come and talk to the scouts: the evening patrol of the local police department!
The kids had lots of questions for them. Especially for the K9 officer.
After the police officers left, they had a little lesson about the flag and learned how to fold it.
James's class had a pumpkin themed challenge for their STEM Friday. They had to figure out how to use a piece of string to carry the pumpkin a certain distance.
The boys were excited about the annual kids fishing derby since they caught so many fish last year. This year was a bust! James didn't catch a single fish and Rett only caught one. After about an hour, they gave up and started running around the park with the other kids.
Anthony's only housecleaning type chore is to take the trash out on trash days and bring the bins back in. But it still takes him days to bring the trash bins back in! So I started getting the boys to do it. I open the trunk and let them sit in the back and hold onto the can and ride it all the way back to the house. They think it is so fun and I don't have to spend days looking at the bins by the side of the road.
Sometimes Baymax will randomly put his paw in his mouth and lay there like that. It looks like he is trying to suck his thumb!
Anthony spent a weekend in the panhandle of Florida, helping with Hurricane Michael clean up. Here are some of the pictures he sent me.
My brother and my mom stopped by for a weekend and my brother changed my router name and wifi password for me (he can't stand it when we keep the original password that came in the box). Now I giggle every time I see it. It's the little things, you know?
For a Halloween project, James had to decorate a pumpkin based off of something from a book. He made his pumpkin into a golden snitch!
James cashed in some of his points so that he could do show and tell. He brought in his rock collection and told everyone all about them. His class loved it! They kept jumping up and wanting to get closer to see all the things he has collected.
We planted 100 strawberry plants in a section of the garden and they are already sprouting! I hope we end up with a lot of strawberries this season.
James's teacher wanted to do a Christmas project with the class. She is taking Poinsetta's and cutting flowers off of them to make more plants. The kids help her with potting them in the school greenhouse and then towards Christmas time they will sell their new poinsettas to parents. Part of their curriculum is to learn money amounts and how to count/exchange so once they collect the money and do that, they are going to purchase gifts for needy children with the proceeds. I told his teacher that we have tons of planters and soil, so I made a few bins full of different sizes for them to use.

James's cub scout pack participated in Scouting for Food, a service project where they put flyers on everyone's door inviting them to donate food and the following week they go around and collect the bags of food. We signed up to help with the food pick up and the kids loved it! They argued over who's turn it was to jump and out and grab the bags.
We brought Baymax with us for the food pick up and he rode in the passenger seat. We could see all his drool dripping from his mouth. So gross!
That afternoon happened to be the birthday party for one of the kids in his den, so they invited James and Rett to join in. They loved it! It was a robot themed party with structured games that flowed really well (I hate going to birthday parties with the boys that last for hours with nothing really happening. I feel like I am trapped there!). One of the games was a robot building relay where they had to take turns running back and forth to a junk pile to get materials to build a robot.

Then they got to make robots out of candy and toothpicks.
After pizza, cake, and presents it was dark enough for a bonfire! They had a huge burn bile of yard trash and the kids loved it! They were running all over the yard, picking up sticks and brush to put on the pile. I thought it was so smart of the birthday boys' dad, he got free yard work out of all the kids!
