James, my mom, and I ventured outside in the daylight for the first time today to take him to his 1 week check up with the pediatrician. I'm not going to lie, I was pretty nervous about how this was going to go. I've gotten comfortable with our routine at home and I wasn't sure how James was going to handle it. I kept imagining him being unconsolable in his car seat or extra fussy at the appointment and I had no idea how I was going to physically carry him and all of his stuff, plus my purse, etc... Luckily, everything went smoothly! Since we had to make a quick decision on a pediatrician (it was on the list to do this month before my due date...) we ended up picking an office that is close to the apartment and had some good reviews online.
When we got there, I realized just how small this practice is. It is basically one pediatrician (who was really nice by the way!) and one other employee that serves as a receptionist/medical assistant. It wasn't very efficient, it took forever for me to even fill out my paperwork because the receptionist had to keep leaving to do check up stuff with other patients. Really strange. My appointment was at 1:30 and we got there around 1:15. We didn't get seen until 2:15 and finally got out of there around 2:40. Is this about average for a pediatrician appointment? It seemed like a long time to me, but it could have been because I am so tired. Another downside is that they only have one small waiting room, so the sick kids wait around with the well kids. Oh well, we aren't that picky at the moment since we are moving to a different area soon and will need to pick another pediatrician anyways.
James' stats at 1 week:
Weight: 5lbs 15 oz (he was 5lbs 8oz when we left the hospital Thursday), 10th percentile
Height (Length?): 18.75 inches. He's grown 1/4 an inch in a week!, 25th percentile
Head Circumference: 5th percentile (don't know actual number)

Can't wait to see the baby.

Cute baby! Our first pediatrician appointment went about the same way. I was scared to death to leave the house with Sawyer. When we got there, it took them forever to see us! The other check up appointments are definitely aren't as long.
I'm loving the new picture of James up at the title of the blog. What a good lookin' baby!
Our first pediatrician appointment went the same way too. And we go to a similar practice - one doctor, one nurse. The rest have been much quicker. Our's only has one waiting room too, but they schedule well visits in the morning and sick visits in the afternoon. Plus they have well exam rooms and sick exam rooms. So that makes me feel better about it, you should ask if your office does something similar.
